Who we are
The Colonias Program was founded in 1991, by State Legislature and is housed within the College of Architecture. Our mission is to develop and deliver solutions to enhance the quality of life for residents living in Colonias and economically distressed areas in Texas. These are residents living without one or more of the major infrastructure such as potable water, paved roads, sewage system, storm drainage, and/or electricity. The TAMU Colonias Program, through an asset-based participatory community development approach, builds the capacity of local residents to actively participate in creating sustainable solutions to local challenges.

This Outreach Worker II, position is responsible for performing mid-level Outreach Center activities such as coordinating and conducting personal interviews, attending training, translating, recruiting participants, assisting with implementing services, and assisting with scheduling and service delivery of SNAP-Ed activities. What you need to know
Pay rate is $10.32/hr; Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and ability to communicate without difficulty. Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally. This position is grant funded and is subject to future funding amounts. This position will be located in Maverick County, Texas.

Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years’ experience, paid or voluntary, in community activities
Required Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Valid Texas Operators’ License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Inability to obtain a valid Texas driver License may result in termination
May be subject to yearly Motor Vehicle Record/driver license checks
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bilingual (Spanish/English) and ability to communicate without difficulty
Must have some knowledge of community resources
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Certified with the Texas Department of Health Services
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Familiar with Basic Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Other Factors:
Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally
Major ResponsibilitiesPerform outreach activities by conducting personal interviews with residents and potential participants to provide information and direct education about the SNAP-Ed programs including healthy eating and physical activity. Assist Program Manager with implementing services. This requires operating a personal vehicle to travel to community resource centers. Perform other duties as assigned.
AdministrativePrepare reports on numbers and other information regarding personal contacts made to regional leadership. Perform administrative tasks as related to outreach work in person, remote, and telephone and online service delivery platforms. Assist with general office duties occasionally.
RecruitingRecruit SNAP-Ed eligible participants for inclusion of healthy eating and physical activity programming.
TrainingAttend training that includes, but is not limited to health, disease prevention, and health outreach education, youth and elderly services.
LiaisonServe as a liaison between the residents and SNAP-Ed program staff. Serve as a liaison between the Program Manager and the other Outreach Workers, and regional leadership.
TranslationProvide assistance in translating what is required of the residents to participate in SNAP-Ed program activities.
