POSITION TITLE: Phlebotomist POSITION SUMMARY: Performs phlebotomy collections according to department policies and accepted safety standards. Prioritizes, collects, accessions, labels, and distributes specimens for testing to appropriate departments. Reports to Laboratory Support Supervisor and Laboratory Administrative Director. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Phlebotomy: Provides phlebotomy services for the hospital or off site locations. Performs venipunctures, heel punctures and capillary sticks using specified techniques that ensures both patient and employee safety. Maintains specimen integrity to ensure quality test results.
Processing: Collects other laboratory specimens as designated by procedure. Triages incoming specimens, accessions, labels and distributes specimen appropriately. Performs all data entry for specimen identification and accessioning. Organizes workload and correctly prioritizes orders for collection giving proper urgency to STAT requests. Runs outstanding reports to locate specimens. Provide troubleshooting for order issues, specimen collections and rejection protocols. Fills out appropriate specimen logs.
Professionalism: Wears I.D. badge while on the job. Vocera badge is worn while working in the inpatient hospital setting. Vocera badge is active and employee is signed on during work hours. Actively seeks to keep up appearance of the facility including own work area as well as public areas even if not part of regular duties.
Customer service: Thanks customers for their support and business; demonstrates appreciation. Provides prompt, courteous service to both inpatients and outpatients in a manner that promotes customer satisfaction. Actively listens to the customer and follows through or seeks authorized personnel to assist.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assist in processing, answer phones, stocking, cleaning and disinfecting the laboratory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERRED: Patient care experience or healthcare education/background. Recent phlebotomy experience. Eligible to become certified PBT (ASCP) or equivalent within 12 months. TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Light physical and moderate cognitive demands. Walking one to three miles, sitting, standing, and adjusting bed or chair height. Able to bend and reach intermittently. Able to work with time constraints, manage multiple tasks,
