JOB TITLEKennel AssistantREPORTS TOKennel DirectorJob SummaryThe Kennel Assistant is an important part of the Butler County Humane Society team. This position is responsible for the overall care and well-being of BCHS’s resident canine and felines, as well cleaning of the shelter kennel and cages. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational and customer service skills that provide a high level of pleasant professional service to all clients, staff, and volunteers. Customer service is important to maintain a positive public image, have repeat adopters and volunteers, and to grow the shelter for years to come. Candidate will work independently and responsibly while observing all health and safety guidelines, and at all times contribute enthusiastically to the positive culture and mission of the BCHS.Duties and Responsibilities1. Work collaboratively with the Executive Director, Kennel Director, and Community Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator to meet kennel operations staffing, scheduling, resource, or other needs including spay/neuter and microchip/rabies clinics.2. Maintain a positive, educational approach with a willingness to listen when dealing with the public, staff and volunteers.3. Excellent Customer Service skills; Communicate professionally and effectively with coworkers, volunteers and the public. Work professionally with the public, customers and fellow coworkers.4. Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages and public areas, following proper disease control protocol to ensure a sterile environment;5. Keep Kennel Tech’s/Kennel Directors informed of animal behavior, health, or concerns;6. Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed;7. Stock areas and spot-clean kennels and public areas throughout the day;8. Clean, fold, and stock kennel laundry and all animal related toys;9. Remove all animal waste from assigned area daily;
10. Socialize, exercise, and provide enrichment to the shelter population;
11. Assist with showing animals that are available for adoption as well as answer any inquiries relating to the health of animals;

12. Work with frequent interruption and changes in priorities;13. Provide support in other departments or collective tasks as needed;14. Assist with the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility overall;15. Conduct any related tasks as assigned by the Executive Director;16. Maintain personal appearance and behavior that meets the expectations of the BCHS’s mission, values, and relationship with the community, including clients, volunteers, employees, supporters, and animals.17. Ensure outside walking, parking, break areas, and animal areas are free of hazards and well maintained. Sweeping, mopping, salting/de-icing, etc .Qualifications1. Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver’s license;2. Experience in animal welfare, shelter, or customer service required;3. Must be in good physical condition, energetic, and able to work 7 days/week, including holidays and weekends, some evenings;4. Must demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude toward all personal and professional efforts both in and away from the workplace.Working ConditionsThis position requires working both indoors and outdoors in all weather; contact with associated cleaners and solvents; contact with animals in residence, some with unpredictable behavior; exposure to the noise, waste, and odor associated with animal shelter populations.Physical RequirementsThis position requires good physical health and conditioning, and may require: standing for extended periods; lifting or moving of heavy objects; repetitive tasks with few breaks; long hours; and other physical demands associated with heavy manual labor.Direct ReportsThe Kennel Assistant reports to the Kennel Director.Wages & BenefitsThis is an hourly, full-time position.
