This position performs entry level technical work such as conveying general information to customers regarding department policies and procedures, codes and ordinances pertaining to construction drawing/permit applications, and assists the public with project related processes and information for site, fire, and building permits. In addition, responsibilities include intake of project submittals, distribution and tracking of construction plans for review, providing status updates for construction plans, determination of project completeness for permit issuance, fee assessment, and payments. Some positions may provide information regarding sales of water and sewer services. This position is assigned to a public counter with high customer volume and cash handling.
Currently, there are opportunities in the Planning and Development Department to fill a permit technician positions; however, consideration may be given to candidates to underfill as a customer service clerk*plans position. Candidates selected to underfill will have the opportunity to promote within the position in one year based on their performance. Candidates at both levels should apply to this recruitment.
This recruitment and any interview process as a result of this recruitment may be used by multiple hiring managers and multiple departments throughout the City to fill any related current or future vacancies; other recruitments and appropriate eligible lists may also be considered.

For in-person interviews and other recruitment and hiring events, candidates who are not fully vaccinated will be required to wear a face covering, and all candidates should be prepared to follow safety guidelines posted for the specific facility they visit.
Proficient communication skills to assist internal and external customers in a fast paced public setting. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and prepare or update statistical reports. Knowledge of research methods to utilize multiple resources and provide accurate records. Ability to work with quick turnaround times and meeting established deadlines.
Permit Tech: $16.24 (minimum)$23.70 (maximum) hourly / $33,779$49,296 annually.
Underfill as CSC*Plans: $15.55 (minimum)$21.57 (maximum) hourly / $32,344$44,866 annually.

Unit 3 – Office/Clerical Benefits
For Permit Tech Level: Must have at least one year of experience in engineering work in the engineering or construction field within the past three years that would include experience reading and reviewing engineering or construction plans.
For underfill as CSC*Plans: One year of experience in meeting the public and performing varied office and clerical tasks supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, and demonstrated typing skills.
Moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds may be required.
Ability to sit long hours processing transactions with customer over the counter or by phone.
