Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding career? Consider a position as a 911 Telecommunicator! This position is a critical part of the first response chain. 911 is a fast-paced, 24/7 operation which requires that applicants are available to work any shift, including holidays, evenings and weekends. Applicants must also be able to multi-task and prioritize demands. As a 911 Telecommunicator, you will operate radio, telephone, and/or computer equipment at an emergency response center; receive reports from the public of crimes, disturbances, fires, and medical or police emergencies; relay information to emergency response personnel; and may maintain contact with caller until responders arrive.
Schedule is an 8-hour shift – 4 days on and 2 days off. Current shift availability:
2nd Shift (3:00 – 11:00 pm).

Note: After completing your application, the next step in the process is to complete a Criticall test on-site at the 911 Center. Tentatively these tests will be conducted June 22-24, 2021. If you are chosen for testing, you will be contacted (by email or phone) no later than June 21. Applicants should allow 1 – 1 ¼ hours for testing. Responsibilities Question callers to determine their locations, and the nature of their problems to determine type of response needed
Receive and transfer incoming telephone or alarm system calls regarding emergency and non-emergency information, and after-hours calls for departments within the county
Determine response requirements and relative priorities of situations, and dispatch units in accordance with established procedures
Determine response requirements for medical emergencies using Emergency Medical Dispatch program
Record details of calls, dispatches, and messages
Retrieve information from teletype networks and computerized data systems regarding such things as wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles
Maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials
Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to law enforcement agencies, and to all other individuals or groups requiring notification
Scan status charts and computer screens, and contact emergency response field units to determine emergency units available for dispatch
Periodic access to information relating to emergency calls such as personnel rosters, and emergency call-out and pager files
Learn material and pass required tests for certification
Read and effectively interpret small-scale maps and information from a computer screen to determine locations and provide directions
Answer routine inquiries, and refer calls not requiring dispatches to appropriate departments and agencies
Must be flexible with work schedule, holidays, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent and the demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be able to pass a Criticall exam, which is part of the application/interview process
Must be able to meet Division of Criminal Information (DCI) standards

Experience in a 911 communications/emergency response center
Working with radios and/or phone (systems) in emergency situations
Working in medical/health, law enforcement, fire, or other emergency positions

A passion for working with others and serving in the 911 Center
Outstanding customer service experience and skills
Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person, to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly in written and spoken language so others will understand
Ability to transmit, broadcast, switch, control, and operate telecommunications systems and other relevant equipment (i.e. computers, phone, etc.)
Ability to monitor multiple radio talk groups at one time and to detect or tell the differences between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness
Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted and as needed shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
Ability to type 35 words per minute or more
Physical requirements include: ability to sit for long periods of time, light to moderate lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds, adequate vision, hearing, and speech, and ability to function in environment that can be noisy at times
