Description Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services is seeking talented professionals to join the Public Health Division as Contact Investigators (COVID-19 Contact Tracers).
This is a limited term opportunity that requires 8 hours per weekend, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Most work will be done remotely, but it is required that hired individuals attend onboarding and training activities physically in person in Waukesha, WI.
Waukesha County will be providing electronic equipment necessary to perform this work. Only applicants that live in the State of Wisconsin or within close proximity to Wisconsin State lines will be considered at this time.

Contact Investigator (COVID-19 Contact Tracer)
Under supervision, a contact investigator will work remotely to reach out via telephone to individuals who may have been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case. The investigator will ask a prescribed set of questions and will document the response in the Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance System (WEDSS). They will also provide prescribed guidance and resources that are recommended by the State and/or CDC to the individuals they are calling. Example of Duties CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives referrals for those identified as close contact with at COVID positive individual.
Develops empathic, non-judgmental rapport with their assigned contacts.
Conducts a prescribed phone questionnaire and daily check-in calls.
Follow developed scripts to inform contacts about the importance of isolation/quarantine and what to do if symptoms develop.
Provides information on available resources and services.
Provide education regarding quarantine that is in line with Waukesha County, State of Wisconsin DHS, and CDC guidelines.
Completes timely and accurate documentation within Microsoft TEAMS and WEDSS.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers and consumers.
Continually update internal spreadsheet with case additions and/or status changes.
Maintain daily contact with lead or direct report.
Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding the case.
Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential Knowledge and Abilities: Ability to effectively interact, establish and maintain working relationships with staff.
Ability to effectively interact, establish and maintain working relationships with persons from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to exhibit critical thinking skills, use discretion and judgement.
Ability to work remotely, with existing high-speed internet connection, in an interruption free environment.Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage workflow.

Ability to make decisions using standardizes practices.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work independently and be resourceful.
Ability to communicate effectively in all verbal and written communication.
Ability to follow all State of Wisconsin and Waukesha County guidance and training related to these investigations and documentation.
Ability to accurately document in an electronic web-based systems (WEDSS and Microsoft TEAMS).
Ability to maintain confidential records and information.
Ability to understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA law. Ability to conduct interviews without violating confidentiality.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision to manage caseloads, including reaching out to individuals, maintaining case logs, and timely data entry.
Ability to accurately document in an electronic web-based system (Microsoft TEAMS).

Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in a medical, public health, or closely related field is preferred.


Experience in a health field. Public health, disease investigation, and/or health information is preferred.


Experience with data entry and documentation in computer systems.
