Summary About the position: This flexible position will be assigned to the School Age Program on Edwards AFB, CA. Physical Effort: Frequent lifting or moving objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. Responsibilities
Food Service Workers:
Set up cafeteria lines, steam tables, dining room tables, and side service stands with hot and cold food items.
Serve food cafeteria style.
Break down and clean area when meals are complete.
Set up and operate dishwasher.
Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks such as washing and sanitizing equipment, floors, walls, walk-in refrigerators/freezers, etc.
Unload food from delivery trucks.
Collect and transfer trash from work area to disposal area.
Assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in quantity and make cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
Prepare coffee, tea, and other beverages.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: Physical Effort: Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, puling, and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. Working Conditions: Uncomfortably high temperature and humidity are created by steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. Area is usually noisy and there is a danger of slipping on wet floors where food or beverage has been dropped. Exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezer units. Qualifying Experience: Food Service Worker Applicants must:
Be able to follow simple oral instructions.
Have the ability to use hand tools for cleaning and operate simple machines.
Be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks.
Be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds and continuously stand and walk with frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending for long periods of time.
Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and background investigation with favorable results.
Be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training.
Other Significant Facts:
Skill and Knowledge: Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks. Knowledge of sanitation standards for handling and serving food, and cleaning equipment and work area.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
