Detail of : Transition and Retention Specialist Job Opening in Bowie

Duties and Responsibilities This person will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and assisting with enrollment activity directly related to new students and retention throughout the admissions process, as it relates to campus experiences. The candidate will be able to engage students through email, phone, face-to-face and virtual interaction, in an effort to serve as a guide and ensure successful transition through the admissions process to matriculation.
Coordinate and manage all New Student Orientations (NSO) programs and events for freshman, transfer, graduate students, and their families.
Focus orientation efforts that specifically target each population: first-year, transfer, first generation, adult learners, veterans, and international students.
Identify NSO Leaders and Bulldog Ambassadors each academic year.
Develop and implement a leadership focused training program for NSO leaders and Bulldog Ambassadors.
Develop and implement program assessment and evaluation plans for orientation programs, campus visitation and the orientation leader programs. Maintain records and statistics.
Oversee campus visits, and the coordination of individualized welcome sessions for visiting groups and families.
Plan, develop, schedule, and implement the day-to-day operations of the NSO, campus visitation and other transitional programs.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students across divisions to ensure successful execution of new student programming.
Manage event registration.
Manage budgets, vendors, and payments related to marketing, advertising, and other event expenses.
Work and coordinate with University Relations and Marketing to develop and create material.
Serve as a direct supervisor to Orientation Leaders, Admissions Ambassadors, student workers, and office volunteers.
Manage the transition of newly accepted students through to matriculation.
Other duties as assigned.

Education Bachelor’s degree required. Experience A minimum of three (3) years experience in admissions, student engagement or event planning in a higher education setting required. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Ability to maintain confidential information
Detail oriented, highly organized with natural aptitude to thrive in fast paced environment
Conduct him/herself in a professional manner at all times
Good written and verbal communication, and presentation skills
Proactive in communication to colleagues and supervisors
Effective in a fast-paced environment.
Working knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Strength in multi-tasking.
Commitment to exemplary customer service.
Familiar with the Admission’s Office
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications a plus.

Ability to lift at least twenty pounds.
Ability to work flexible hours and weekends when required.

This position is Title III grant-funded. Employment is subject to available funding. Other This is a non-union position.
