STATEMENT OF THE JOB: Under supervision of the Behavior Specialist. Works with classroom teacher(s) and a single child or small group short term to model and coach interventions that will support a child’s individualized success plan (IEP or behavior plan) to accommodate the child’s disability or behavioral difficulties and allow them to participate in the classroom. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a member of the Administrative Office Management Team and the Early Childhood Management Team in overall coordination and planning for the early childhood programs.
Maintain a professional attitude at all times and cooperate with all staff, parents, volunteers and community persons.
Monitor and ensure that all children’s records and documentation follow Policies and Procedures, Office of Head Start Head Performance Standards, state licensing requirements and any other regulations.
Under supervision by the Behavior Specialist, the behavior Technician will coach educators in providing direct services to assigned children through modeling interventions that are in alignment with the child’s success plan in all areas of the program.
Ensure that children with disabilities and behavioral difficulties receive an inclusive experience in the least restrictive environment.
Model appropriate behavior and interact in a positive and developmentally appropriate way with children, staff and families in order to build and foster responsive relationships.
Will collect data as directed by Behavior Specialist to measure goals and objectives of a child’s success plans to help in determining success of goals and plans.
Consult regularly with AO staff, classroom staff, parents and other involved members of the child’s individualized team on the progress of the child.
Attend and participate/assist in staff and team trainings and meetings, providing observations and input about educators, children and programming.
Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind for parent and community activities.
11. Will maintain current on developmentally appropriate practices of child development and behavior management topics to ensure quality support of children, families and staff.
Work with other Head Start Coordinators to annually update content areas of the Head Start Policies and Procedures in conjunction with parents, staff, community persons and Health Services Advisory Committee
Serve as part of the annual Self- Assessment Team.
Develop and present training programs to large group settings, using Power Point, SmartBoard or other electronic media
Responsible for data management in MYHS and PIR relevant to the Mental Health content areas
Responsible for avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensuring compliance in the overall management of the Agency.
Respect confidentiality in all aspects of the Head Start Program.
Must be willing to participate in all training designed for professional development.
Able to handle stress, tension and exasperation that contact with many children and adults may bring every day.
May be called upon to administer first aid to children or staff at any time in the program. The incidental nature of this circumstance effectively establishes first aid as collateral duty, rather than a primary one.
Perform other job-related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the program.
Baccalaureate or advanced degree in special education or related field required.
Two years in Head Start or another child development program.
Must pass tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination within 90 days of employment.
Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle with liability insurance, and willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
Able to travel out of town overnight to attend training or make on-site visits.
Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a dedicated interest in community projects.
Have initiative and ability to motivate groups of people and to stimulate group action.
Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Head Start program.
Able to delegate responsibilities.
Able to keep confidential information without inappropriately divulging it.
Have planning and organizational abilities.
Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.
Public Relations: Must be able to represent the agency in activities related to job title.
