THE POSITIONUnder general supervision, perform a variety of accounting, bookkeeping and routine administrative duties. Assist vendors, departments, and employees by providing fiscal information, explaining procedures and answering questions. Develop, generate and maintain various accounting reports and records. Participate in the retrieval and processing of payroll time sheets; audit and reconcile payroll time sheets. Receive and respond to complaints and questions from the public relating to assigned area of responsibility; review problems and recommend corrective actions; prepare summary reports as required. Review invoices and process claims and purchasing requests for payment. Perform a variety of clerical duties including operating personal computer, answering the telephone, typing, maintaining files and records. Other duties may include various accounting projects, records management, and general administrative and clerical support. Current vacancy is in the Utility Billing Division of the Finance Department. This is a six month temporary assignment.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSKnowledge of: Journey level clerical and accounting principles and procedures.
Modern office procedures and computer equipment, including spreadsheet applications.
Basic principles and procedures of record keeping.
Basic arithmetic.

*Ability to: *Provide exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, responsive, fair, courteous and respectful, and to actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment.
Audit claims sent in for payment; review forms for discrepancies in pricing, calculation, taxes, freight charges and related items; ensure expenditure authorizations are signed.
Process contracts and purchase order payments; maintain a payment log sheet; send out change orders to department staff requesting additional funds or account change when needed to complete transactions; close blanket purchase orders at year end.
Assist customers, and City employees, by providing fiscal information, explaining procedures and answering questions.
Develop, generate and maintain various accounting reports and records.
Participate in the retrieval and processing of payroll time sheets; audit and reconcile payroll time sheets.
Provide administrative assistance in support of assigned City projects; prioritize and coordinate work assignments; review work for accuracy; train assigned personnel.
Participate in the preparation of assigned budget; maintain and monitor appropriate budgetary controls; authorize routine fund expenditures including purchase orders and work orders.
Perform a variety of general clerical duties including answering the telephone, typing, maintaining files and records, and copying.
