Assists Centralized Processing Unit (CPU) supervisors in providing advice and assistance to employees in various areas of payroll and processing and providing guidance and direction to staff on the compliance of the following: tax forms, allotments, health and life insurance elections, union dues, charity deductions, garnishments and child support deductions, Thrift Savings Plan elections/changes, lump sum annual leave payments, performance appraisals, and pay differentials.
Refers staff to the appropriate centralized resource center for specific payroll, staffing and benefits related issues.
Assists CPU supervisors with policy development, updated and issuances of agency guidance to staff at all levels of the agency, including the development of information and maintaining the agency processing website.
Responsible for receiving and screening all phone calls and correspondence arriving at the CPU.
Maintains filing for the Bureau's Official Personnel Files (OPF), ensuring that files include all required documents and that all documents are properly signed and filed.
Occasional travelTravel may be required for training and/or work related issues.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience in assisting staff with general questions in the areas of payroll processing, health and life insurance, performance appraisals, etc.
Experience in maintaining human resource records and assisting with ensuring program requirements and timeframes are met.
Experience in monitoring and keying time and attendance records for employees and maintaining these files in accordance with policy or operating procedures.
Experience with assisting Human Resource Specialists with the processing of a variety of payroll and personnel documents such as tax forms allotments, health and life insurance elections, performance appraisals, etc.
If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

This position IS NOT included in the bargaining unit. The representative rate for this position is $51,794 per annum ($24.82 per hour).
