Join the nonprofit team that has been selected as the "best place to work" and "best place to volunteer" and "nonprofit of the year"!CASA of Santa Barbara County is the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program for Santa Barbara County with offices in Santa Maria, Lompoc, and Santa Barbara.CASA of Santa Barbara County is growing and has TWO openings for the position of Advocate Supervisor - these are the awesome CASA team members who work directly with our amazing volunteers to support their efforts advocating for children in our community.One position is in our LOMPOC office, and one position is in our Santa Maria office.Organizational OverviewCASA of Santa Barbara County volunteers transforms the lives of children who have suffered abuse or neglect by providing them with advocacy in court and in the community. CASA OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY believes that every child deserves a safe and permanent home, and to that end, our vision is to provide a CASA volunteer for every child in the protective care of the court.Overview of the Position(s)A person who loves customer service is a good fit for this position. You will work with a wide variety of people (our volunteers are a diverse group, ranging in age from 21 to mid 80's!). You will need excellent attention to detail and the ability to use Microsoft office (word, excel, teams, 360). Prior nonprofit work is helpful, but not required. We provide all of the training needed to be successful in this important position.An Advocate Supervisor will:Ensure that the children assigned to Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers receive the advocacy they need; Ensure that the children’s best interests are presented to the Court by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs); Ensure that the needs of the volunteers are met and that the volunteers are satisfied; Ensure that the policies and procedures of CASA OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY are followed by all volunteers; Carry out all assigned responsibilities; Assist with volunteer recruitment and retention efforts; and Promote the mission of CASA of Santa Barbara County in the community.
Our Advocate Supervisors share common characteristics: they are bright and professional, insightful about human behavior, open to learning, comfortable in a non-profit work environment, and persistent and strategic in their advocacy efforts. Their time is spent interacting with our volunteers and with professionals in the child welfare community, assisting with CASA volunteers’ court reports, and dealing with a myriad of administrative tasks.The ideal candidate shares these characteristics:at least five years of professional work experience, and a combination of education and experience that meets the qualifications defined here. The ideal candidate also has a background in volunteerism. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position (nonexempt).
Advocate Supervisor ResponsibilitiesMaintain substantial knowledge regarding the CASA concept and CASA of Santa Barbara County policies and procedures. Sustain a working knowledge of court policies and procedures for the purposes of assisting CASA volunteers in the advocacy of their assigned case children. Maintain an ongoing caseload involving a total of approximately 40-50 CASAs. Provide supervision and support to CASA volunteers in the exercise of their duties. Establish at least monthly contact with all volunteers and maintain detailed records concerning all contact with volunteers and other parties involved in a child’s case. Review, edit, and approve the accuracy and appropriateness of the CASAs’ court reports and related communications to the Court and agencies. Type, copy, and route reports as necessary. Conduct annual evaluations with each volunteer. Provide a written record of the evaluation in the volunteer file. Maintain accurate records concerning upcoming court dates. Attend and support CASA volunteers at Treatment Team meetings, Child and Family Team meetings, Team Decision Making meetings, and Individualized Education Program meetings when needed. Attend court hearings with or in place of CASA volunteers as necessary to advise the Court as to the status of a child. Advocate Supervisors do not appear in Court as a substitute for legal counsel and do not offer legal advice or make legal arguments on behalf of children. Although Advocate Supervisors will review CASA submissions to the Court, Advocate Supervisors do not serve as counsel for children and do not prepare legal documents intended to secure legal rights for those children. Staff a regional CASA OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY office in LOMPOC or SANTA MARIA under the supervision of the Executive Director. Continually work to further the Mission and Vision of CASA of Santa Barbara County. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
WORK SCHEDULE The standard workweek is 40 hours. Evenings and weekends may be required on occasion.Physical RequirementsAble to lift 40 lbs. Work EnvironmentProfessional office environment Fast-paced working with multi-level distractions Regional (Lompoc and Santa Barbara) offices may have 1 – 3 full-time staff members assigned to that office. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a small office, with extensive interaction with volunteers and frequent opportunities to gather with colleagues working in other offices
Special ConditionsAll new employees are initially assigned to the Santa Maria office during the training period (average 6 weeks). On successful completion of initial training, the candidate selected for the Lompoc office position will be assigned to the Lompoc office. Occasional travel throughout Santa Barbara County Must be comfortable working independently and with others.
