The primary purpose of this position is to Assist the GSSO as a Security Specialist and Security Advisor, providing oversight and management of personnel security in support of the Wing Advanced Program Office (APO). Also, to monitor and implement established security management and personnel and reports security programs.
Responsibilities Resolves a wide variety of complex security clearance problems that require alternative responses through coordination with unit security managers, DoD Central Adjudication Facility, Defense Security Service, OPM, higher headquarters, etc.
Assists in the overall management of the Information Security Program. Reviews documents as necessary to ascertain compliance with applicable DOD regulations, AF instructions, MAJCOM policies, and local directives.
Reviews, establishes, and maintains Security Information Files (SIFs).
Assists in the administration of the Security Education and Training Program for information, personnel, and industrial security programs.
Performs administrative office support functions and maintains cooperative working relationships with unit security managers, supervisors, operating officials, and unit commanders.

IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity.
Mission Essential personnel are required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.

Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Security Clerical and Assistance Series, 0086.
Position is a Special Sensitive Security Clearance the selectee must possess this clearance prior to starting in the position. If selectee does not possess this clearance, a full investigation and favorable security adjudication must be complete and rendered prior to beginning in the position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 or higher grade level or equivalent in other pay systems which demonstrates knowledge of specialized security methods, rules, regulations, principles, and procedures to resolve a wide range of problems and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments such as determining the kinds of information and supporting data required, and criteria to be applied, in clearance adjudication processes; evaluating derogatory information to determine if a Security Information Files (SIF) must be established; and ensuring that the SIF includes all supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS:Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of common and specialized security methods, rules, regulations, and principles to provide technical work and assist security specialists in security administration, and perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard security assignments and resolve problems.
Knowledge of procedures, forms, and information and confidentiality requirements related to sensitive personal information to request security investigations and submit to the appropriate government agency.
Knowledge of what constitutes derogatory information, the supporting data required to complete adjudication determinations, and understanding of clearance adjudication processes and the information/criteria required.
Knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with a specific security function to recognize, locate, and insert data/information; support office and security operations; and produce a variety of documents and reports.
Ability to plan and organize work, follow instructions, and accomplish multiple ongoing projects and ability to locate, assemble, and compose information for reports, inquiries, and limited technical correspondence.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires federal agencies to treat an eligible active duty service member as a veteran, disabled veteran, and preference eligible (as applicable) when applying for civil service positions before the effective release or discharge date. Appointment of military members before the release or discharge date is permissible if the member is on terminal leave.
